These last four years have witnessed the amazing increase in the number of projects using biomass, most based on wood but also on the development of energy crops and the use of cereal waste.
This movement will grow and COFELY has forecast a six-fold increase in biomass consumption by 2010.
COFELY’s strategy is based on four cornerstones:
- over 20 years experience that now provides COFELY with approximately one hundred references in this area;
- real innovation capability in terms of both product selection (plant oils, cereal waste, triticale, miscanthus etc.) and of setting up contracts (partnerships with forestry cooperatives, industrial projects as part of the CRE electricity bid calls etc.)
- procurement control thanks to our central purchasing unit and to our capacity for assisting with the deployment of local procurement systems by becoming involved, for instance, in the construction of timber preparation platforms;
- the will to encourage the development of this renewable energy as part of a «sustainable» outlook by promoting local procurement projects, by working in collaboration with all interested parties involved in this sector and by reducing competition from other outlets whether for cereal crops or timber.
